I need more! 🥰 I couldn't put this down。 This was such a fun and enchanting read。 I was obsessed with Sage, she's fierce, selfless, funny, and relatable。 Her inner dialogue had me laughing and giddy squealing a lot, especially in scenes with Von。 I loved their chemistry, their banter, and how she grew closer to him without it feeling too forced。 I was completely invested in them both halfway through the book。 They had me crying with the last few chapters, completely toying with my emotions。。 i a I need more! 🥰 I couldn't put this down。 This was such a fun and enchanting read。 I was obsessed with Sage, she's fierce, selfless, funny, and relatable。 Her inner dialogue had me laughing and giddy squealing a lot, especially in scenes with Von。 I loved their chemistry, their banter, and how she grew closer to him without it feeling too forced。 I was completely invested in them both halfway through the book。 They had me crying with the last few chapters, completely toying with my emotions。。 i am not ok。 The way the author writes really sucks you into the characters' thoughts and feelings。 You can't not, connect with them。This was easy to bindge read。 It has short chapters and a slight dual pov。 I did hope to get more of Vons perspective once we had it and I would have liked to have known more about where Von was disappearing to at times but I have a feeling that will come out in book two 🤞I feel like we have just opened the seams of what this fantasy world has to offer as we discover it alongside Sage, I'm excited to see where this series goes。 This is a debut novel and i really hope that we get to see the rest of what she has to offer。。。 no pressure, but I need book 2 。。 like now 😚 。。。more

DNF @ 76%。 One word to describe this book would be underwhelming。 The magic system wasn’t explained very well and the lack of world building sucked。 The female protagonist is pretty much clueless the entire time and doesn’t question anything that she’s told。

I can not give this book any less than 5 stars! I personally loved it and am surprised at some of the lower ratings。

First of all, thank you so much Jaclyn for sending me an ARC of your beautiful book。 I enjoyed every bit of it。I really loved the way everything is described in this book, with the little details giving the full sensation of every situation。Sage is funny, wild and loyal to her core。 And Von is just the new book boyfriend we needed, I missed him every time he was shadow walking who knows where。 Loved them both。I cannot wait for a sequel, so we can see how the new revelations at the end make Sage First of all, thank you so much Jaclyn for sending me an ARC of your beautiful book。 I enjoyed every bit of it。I really loved the way everything is described in this book, with the little details giving the full sensation of every situation。Sage is funny, wild and loyal to her core。 And Von is just the new book boyfriend we needed, I missed him every time he was shadow walking who knows where。 Loved them both。I cannot wait for a sequel, so we can see how the new revelations at the end make Sage evolve, and I hope we get to see more of how the magic works, and of course, see the whole gang together again。 。。。more

DNF at 23%, pg 97 on my KU。I liked the book。 I jumped ahead and noticed it ends in a cliffhanger。 Nothing wrong with it, I just can’t keep waiting for books to release lol, it’s bad for my blood pressure。 I might come back to this when more books in this series are released…However, I will say this-> till now the story is really really good。 So I do see myself coming back。

The book was easy to follow along the world building and character development。 Loved the female lead Sage, who was developing as the book went along。 I didn’t love Von at first as a lead male。 I found that he grew on me as the story developed and you were able to see more of his history and character。 I loved thé found family in the group of friends。 It does end on a cliff hanger。 Can’t wait to read more from this series。

Okay, I absolutely loved this story。 I found myself getting so wrapped up in it that I forgot to highlight my favorite lines。 Between Life & Death was a very unique story。 Very different from most fantasy stories out right now。 Idk if it was just me but I got a lot of ACOTAR, some FBAA, and Avatar the Last Airbender vibes (but that in particular came from the elemental magic aspect of the story)。I like that the magic aspect of the story was more elemental and not just raw and untethered magic bl Okay, I absolutely loved this story。 I found myself getting so wrapped up in it that I forgot to highlight my favorite lines。 Between Life & Death was a very unique story。 Very different from most fantasy stories out right now。 Idk if it was just me but I got a lot of ACOTAR, some FBAA, and Avatar the Last Airbender vibes (but that in particular came from the elemental magic aspect of the story)。I like that the magic aspect of the story was more elemental and not just raw and untethered magic blasting out of everyone’s fingertips。I absolutely loved Sage。 She is real and raw。 She is fierce and can handle her own, she loves hard, and fights for people that cannot fight for themselves。Von though, woof。 I mean, if Rhysand and Cassian had a love child then we would receive Daddy Von, and I am totally here for it。 He was sexy and sensual and a complete mystery the whole entire book。My biggest issue was wondering why the strongest and highest ranked rebel warriors would drop everything to help Sage find her brother。 But after learning everything we learn about Von and Sage it made more sense。And the cliffhanger。 Ugh。 My life is ruined。 😝 。。。more

I found her to be very annoying I almost DNF this book because the first 30% was very cringy and it was very rushed。 The attraction between Von and Sage was awkward and didn't really make sense at first。Then there was the snake。。。。 I get what she was trying to do with it but I felt it really didn't fit。 And again it was rushed and forced。I had a hard time with the constant use of the same adjectives。 Especially 'his bourbon voice' that one frustrated me every time。 I mean I get its significance to the character but it got annoying。 Also the Constance use of 'male' and 'female' instead of man or woman。 I understand the book has a lot of feminist qualities too it but to constantly refer to the men around her as males was, again, annoying。I also felt there was kind of a weird clash between 'fantasy' world building with elements of 'historical fiction' that kind of took me out of the scenes。 Like how she mentions a squire type person making announcements wearing a wig。 That description pulls out historic figures in my mind but this is a fantasy realm。 I honestly would have given this book a 2⭐ BUT the saving grace was the last 30%。 I felt the writing matured a little bit and all the loose ends were tied up without actually being knotted。 Which was done well。 Enough to keep the reader guessing, without a devastating cliffhanger。 You were given just the right amount of info to want more without feeling you had enough。 I also admire the fact she didn't fill the first book with a ton of info about the realms and the gods。 It leaves much to learn for future books and really helps the reader follow the memory path of sage。 We only learn as much as she learns which helps the story line。 Did I love this book? No。Did I love the concept? Yes。Will I be jumping on the next book? Absolutely。I'm hoping book 2 matures a little bit。 I love her imagination, just not the writing style as much。Amazing job for her first novel! 。。。more

So I’m obsessed with this。 The second we met Von I knew this would be a 5 star read。If you’re a SJM, JLA, Carissa Broadbent or Raven Kennedy fan I would 100% recommend this。 While this is definitely its own story in its own right this gives me that same obsessive and excited feeling I get with these authors。 Can’t wait for the next book 😍

DNF at 45%。 This。。 is not good。 Every character in this book had no personality。 The MMC was basically a cardboard cut out of Rhysand/Cassian/Casteel with incredibly cheesy lines which I think were supposed to be arrogant and seductive but I was immediately cringing。 You have to let some sort of tension build it’s so boring when they’re in love/obsessed with each other after speaking twice。 The FMC had absolutely no clue what was going on which meant we as readers had no clue。 There was no real DNF at 45%。 This。。 is not good。 Every character in this book had no personality。 The MMC was basically a cardboard cut out of Rhysand/Cassian/Casteel with incredibly cheesy lines which I think were supposed to be arrogant and seductive but I was immediately cringing。 You have to let some sort of tension build it’s so boring when they’re in love/obsessed with each other after speaking twice。 The FMC had absolutely no clue what was going on which meant we as readers had no clue。 There was no real purpose or urgency in what they were doing- it felt like the author was just working off of a check list。 There was no world building, no plot development, the dialogue between all the characters just felt so forced? It has lots of emotions, twists, turns and fantastic side characters who help keep the story interesting。 There were only a few things that stopped me from rating this any higher;1。 There is a strange choice of language in some parts (not a huge fan of the word pegged and its overuse- and no it's not in that sort of context!)2。 I was also confused as to what, if any, time period this was set in。 It seemed to be set in a magical almost medieval context, but there would be language and setting description used later in the book that would contradict that。 I understand this is high fantasy but it did get somewhat muddled in the middle of the book。 However, overall I did enjoy the book and cannot wait for a sequel - you can't leave us hanging with that ending! 。。。more

I really enjoyed this book! I saw teasers for it on TikTok and when Jaclyn asked for ARC readers, I knew I had to be one。 I was hooked from the beginning and flew through the book。 Jaclyn’s style of writing makes it easy to read while simultaneously adding the perfect amount of detail to build the story and keep it going。 One negative for me was the almost instant love story - I would have liked maybe a little more build up between the two characters…at first it seemed a little forced。 However, I really enjoyed this book! Hoping it comes out soon…I need to know what happens and how he did it (if you’ve read the book…you know who and what I’m talking about!)。 Thanks Jaclyn for writing a great, entertaining book - can’t wait for book 2! 。。。more

I was very fortunate to receive an ARC and I am beyond glad that I applied to be an ARC reader。 The first chapter immediately threw you into the story but not in an overbearing information dump way。 It immediately captivated me。 However, after the first chapter, I’m being honest, it was a bit boring until we met Von (the morally grey villain who was 🥵🥵🥵)。 I had a hard time in the beginning connecting with Sage but her character had so much growth and I really ended up loving her as a character。 I was very fortunate to receive an ARC and I am beyond glad that I applied to be an ARC reader。 The first chapter immediately threw you into the story but not in an overbearing information dump way。 It immediately captivated me。 However, after the first chapter, I’m being honest, it was a bit boring until we met Von (the morally grey villain who was 🥵🥵🥵)。 I had a hard time in the beginning connecting with Sage but her character had so much growth and I really ended up loving her as a character。 I won’t lie, during one scene she pissed me off because (trying to keep it spoiler free) if she didn’t do what she did, what happened wouldn’t have happened。 The story had a great pacing, it wasn’t too slow and it didn’t move too fast。 I honestly couldn’t put the book down when I was reading it。 The world was also very unique。 People were “cursed” with powers from the gods and they were considered enemies and went through a cleansing。The story gave off major ACTOR and Vikings vibes which I enjoyed immensely。 The side characters were all amazing and there was a decent amount of twists that I was not expecting。 Although I did guess something right 😉 Overall this fantasy romance story holds a piece of my heart and I CANNOT wait until the next book because it does end on a cliffhanger (which gave me chills) 4。7/5⭐️ 。。。more
